About the Dinosaur Game
The Dinosaur Game, also called the Chrome Dino or T-Rex Runner, is the little endless runner that Google Chrome shows when your internet connection drops. A pixel T-Rex runs across the desert, and your only job is to keep it alive by jumping over cacti and ducking under pterodactyls. Here you can play it any time, online or not, on desktop or phone, with no download and no ads.
How to play
- Jump: press Space or ↑, or tap the game.
- Duck: press ↓, or touch and hold the lower half of the game on mobile.
- Restart: press Space or Enter, or tap, after a crash.
The game speeds up the longer you survive. Every 700 points the desert switches between day and night, which makes obstacles harder to spot.
Where it came from
Chrome's UX team created the game in 2014 as a friendly way to fill the wait when the network is down. The dinosaur is a joke about going "back to the prehistoric ages" before the internet. The game code is open source as part of Chromium, and this site runs a faithful version of it.
Frequently asked questions
Is there an end?
No. The run continues until you hit something. The score counter shows five digits but keeps counting past 99,999.
Does it work without WiFi?
Once this page has loaded, the game itself needs no connection. Only submitting a score to the leaderboard needs internet.
Does it work on phones?
Yes. Tap to jump and hold the bottom half of the game to duck. Turn your phone sideways for a bigger view.
How does the leaderboard work?
If your run beats your own best and makes the top five of the day or of all time, it is added to the leaderboard automatically under the name you set with the 👤 button (or "Anonym"). No account is needed. The "day" resets at midnight UTC.
